We understand that no two situations are the same and that customers will have questions. We have done our best to list some of the most common questions and answers below. However if there is anything else you would like to ask, don't hesitate to contact us.

  • Who are Dinnington Self Storage (DSS)?

    We are a local family business that have been trading for in excess of 30 years, we are now the third generation of the family.

  • Where is DSS Located?

    We are located on Todwick Road Industrial Estate, Bookers Way, Dinnington, S25 3SH, just 2 minutes drive from Junction 31 of the M1. We are in a five mile radius of Aston, Aughton, Beighton, Bramley, Dinnington, Firbeck, Gildinwgwells, Harththill, Hooton Levitt, Killamarsh, Kiveton, Langold, Laughton en le Morthern, Letwell, Maltby, North Anston, Shireoaks, Slade Hooton, South Anston, Swallownest, Thorpe Salvin, Thurcroft, Todwick,Treeton, Ulley, Wallingwells, Whiston, Wickersley.

  • What actually is self-storage?

    Self storage is an industry in which storage space, also known as "storage units" are rented to tenants, usually on a short-term basis. Self-storage tenants include businesses and individuals.

  • What size are the containers?

    20 foot x 8 foot x 8 foot. Which is 33 cubic meters.

  • How old are the containers?

    All our containers are brand new in 2019.

  • What can a 20 foot container hold?

    • 200 full-sized mattresses • 48,000 bananas • 50-60 refrigerators • 400 flat screen TVs • 1 car Or the contents of a large house, 800 + boxes.

  • What is the minimum length of rental?

    1 month.

  • How secure is the site?

    DSS is surrounded by a high security fence, has flood lighting on site as well as 24-hour CCTV.

  • What can I store in my container?

    You can store just about anything with a few exceptions. Please contact us for more details.

  • Do I need to insure my goods?

    It may be worth checking your current insurance policy as it may already cover you.

  • What do people, actually use container storage for?

    We have an array of items stored in out containers which varies from week to week, including: cars, carpets, children’s toys and clothes, Christmas decorations, business archives, business stock, decorating tools, exercise equipment, furniture, fishing tackle, garden planters and much more.

  • How much does it cost to store my items in a container?

    We will not be beaten on price. Your first payment is £200 + VAT which includes your deposit and first monthly rental after that you pay £100 + VAT per calendar month.

  • Can I get discount if I pay in advance for long term storage?

    You can prepay for any length of time over 2 months. Seasonal discounts may be available depending on the length of period you want to prepay. Call us on 01142879214 for the latest offers.

  • Do you offer recommend a friend discount?

    Yes. If you recommend someone that we have not already been in conversation with and they store with us for a minimum of 3 months, you can receive 50% off your next month’s storage rental.

  • Can I park on site?

    Yes free parking is available on site and you can drive straight up to all containers.

  • Can you recommend van hire / removal companies?

    Yes, we have partnered with several local removal companies and man and van services to enable us to offer our customers a hassle free move.

  • Can I add items to my container once I have moved in?

    Yes. You can come and go as often as you like, removing and adding items from your container as required.

  • Can I bring clients / customers to my container?

    You may, but you are completely responsible and liable for any persons you bring onsite. They should not be left unattended.

  • Can I view the facilities before moving in?

    Yes. Please feel free to come and visit us to see how everything works before you decide to store with us. Just arrive during our office opening hours, or even better give us a quick ring to arrange a time and date that's convenient and we'll happily show you around .

  • How do I make a reservation?

    You can reserve a container on line or over the phone. Reserving a room is free of charge and quick and simple to do. If you change your mind at any time, just give us a call and we'll cancel your reservation You are not committed if you change your mind on your move in date, length of stay etc.

  • Why do I need to supply ID?

    For security reasons we need to keep a record of all active customers.

  • What ID do you accept?

    Proof of identity – either a passport of driving license. Proof of address – a utility bill in the last 3 months.

  • Can I move in today?

    Yes. If we have the availability and you have the correct ID, you can move in as quickly as today provided it is during our opening hours. Please give us a call on 01142879214 to arrange your move.

  • Can I use my own lock?

    Yes. However, you need to ensure that they fit our container locks. We can supply padlocks on site for a charge of £20.00. If you are bringing your own padlock, please check that it is suitable for use.

  • Do you help people move in or out?

    It is the customer’s responsibility for any movement of belongings whether this be moving in or out. However, we do have a fork lift on site which can be used if available for a nominal charge. If you require this service, we recommend you call us to arrange this prior to turning up on site. If van hire / removals companies are required, we have a list of recommended companies we can give you the details of.

  • What time do I need to be there to move in?

    We recommend you get to the site at least an hour before we close to ensure all paperwork is completed and you can be shown your container. Once the office is closed you can have access to the storage area 24 hours per day, 7 days per week 365 days per year.

  • Can I provide my notice to move out via email?

    Yes. Just confirm your full name, email address used on the account (if not emailing from this same email) and container number and DSS will accept this as confirmation of your notice to move out.

  • Do I have to clean my container out?

    Yes. We ask that you leave your container in the same condition as you were given it. Clean and clear of any items, with the padlock removed from your door.

  • If I have paid up front for long term storage, can I leave early & will I get a refund?

    Yes, you can leave early. The amount we will refund you is on a pro-rata basis, so you get refunded for every day after you have moved out. The total of the refund will be based on how much you paid for your storage fees and security deposit when you moved in.

  • What are your opening / access times?

    Our office is open 9am – 5pm Monday – Friday and 9am – 12 noon Saturday, Sunday by appointment only. Access times to the storage facility are 24 hours a day.

  • Do you sell boxes & packaging materials?

    Yes. We sell a variety of bubble wrap, packing tissue and tape as well as a selection of cardboard and plastic boxes all at great prices.

  • Do I have to pay a deposit?

    Yes. All customers are required to pay a refundable security deposit before storing. The amount is usually the equivalent of one month’s storage fees (plus VAT). The deposit is fully refundable provided there is no damage to the container after you have vacated.

  • How can I pay my monthly charge?

    We accept: cash, debit card, credit card and you can also pay by standing order.

  • Can we rent a container off site? Ie at your home address.

    Yes, we also supply containers to site. These can be rented for both short or longer terms. The cost of these will vary according to proximity to our site, ease of access to the required location and length of period the container is required for.

  • Can I buy a container from DSS or do you just rent them out?

    We sell both new and used containers of varying sizes and configurations just contact us with your requirements and we will endeavour to meet your needs.
